I ran the live update today for Intrepid and installed the recommended Canon IP4000 print driver and tested it.

Unlike Feisty the driver installed and duplex worked fine. I did not test the paper source trays yet but I do expect it to work but one really never knows.

However!

When I tried to print a photo all I got was a grainy 600x600 resolution print that looked awful. I remember that when I originally installed Feisty I had a similar problem printing from Gimp and I had to install a ppd file in a gutenprint plug-in to get a decent photo print.

But it is now two years later and one would think that this would have been corrected.

I would like to know if others have had similar problems and what their solution was.

I don't believe that Gutenprint (and its associated drivers) is installed by default. I had the same problem in Intrepid with an Epson CD/DVD printer -- until I installed Gutenprint and changed to the Gutenprint driver.
