So you want to copy files from your home Ubuntu PC to a Vista PC at your school? Is the school setup to allow you to do this? What protocol are they using? Must you login to a VPN? FTP?

In other words, I need more information.

yeah totally, I have complete control its my laptop, I would like to use filezilla on the vista system to do the ftp. No idea how to set up ubuntu to be accessed or even wear to start with both systems.

It connects directly to the DSL modem at school, dorm room. No router.

Simplest way is probably this: Set up SSH on the Ubuntu system (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SSHHowto). Then you can use FileZilla to connect by SFTP.
