I installed KDE desktop a few hours ago for Ubuntu. After installing it, my Open Office writer disappear off my panel and Applications. Ubuntu also had a pop-up saying that it is not a genuine copy. When I tried to switch my desktop to KDE, it had an error stating that KStartupConfig won't load.
Only thing that is a critical out of the list is getting Open Office Writer to run.

Ubuntu doesn't have a genuine copy notification. It's free and open source
Maybe you were in windows?

For some reason, it came up with a genuine pop-up. I haven't booted my XP partician in a month.
I know Ubuntu is free and open-source.

That must have been something else. Ubuntu nor any Linux distro has never had and will never have a genuine copy popup. Maybe you can provide a screenshot?
