Recovery software is more useful than anti-virus ones.Since my sweet PC was bought 2 months ago, it has been attacked by variou virus. Due to the limittion of my computer Knowlege, I can't do nothing. I installed lots kind of Anti-vrius softwares, but nothing changed. At last I found a new netside, which saying about a kind of Recovery software, Ryrecovery software. It may help you too.:lol

(1) always have backups
(2) make backups regurarly
(3) best make backups automatically
(4) no antivirus is needed on linux (in general)

(5) your post is totally unclear of what happened and what you try to do

I believe what transpired for him is this:

1. Installed all kinds of anti-virus s/w but finds that it mostly fails or at best does what malware or viruses do, slows down the pc.
2. He finds some recovery s/w that allows easy recovery.

I have to agree with what he said. Graceful recovery is perhaps sometimes a better bet than anti-virus s/w.

For me, when I used WinXP (2000 [MSDN beta] till it went retail until 2007), I never use any anti-virus/malware apps. I just use FF and *never* *ever* open emails from dubious sources or visit strange sites. I also *never* *ever* use apps or scripts from strangers. And my system is fast and sweet without the anti-virus apps slowing me down.

Since 2008 April, I've been running Ubuntu full-time and been good so far. :D

To that list I would add a comment, it does not count as a "backup" if you have not tested the "restore" part. In addition to making a backup, you need to be sure you can restore your data (make sure your backup strategy works before you need to use it).
