View Full Version : [kubuntu] Installation hang

I am using Pentium-D (E64 ),512 ram, 40 gb(ide) hdd, foxcon Motherboard (intel chip)..(im am using hdd (ide)and cdrom (ide) in single cable)
I am having problem in installing ubuntu(6.10,8.06), kubuntu(6.10,8.10)..
It freezes during installing. (when loading, when choosing language, after partition, etc
i am using live cd (not the text base cd)
i run cd defects but cd was clean,
i tried to install it from the desktop also (using live cd)

its diffucult when ur not in front of the comp to tell.
but as a vague answer if they are old parts then it sounds like a motherboard issue or a damaged sector on the hdd other than that try downloading ubuntu again off the site it could have droped a file through the download

check the bios and enable something like "extended harddisk controllers" setup.wait sometime more while installing ,it will install .
If this failed ,install ubuntu debian-installer wala cd -"alternate cD"

ya ok..
my machine is new,and i installed too many time in my laptop (nec).
and i use almost 5-6 cd.
(i had 10 ubuntu,kubuntu,xubuntu 6.10 cd which i got by post)
..
im downloading alternate cd,let u know after chk this,
bios is new thing,ill chk it,
----
im using ide cdrom and ide hdd in a single cable.
im using pentium-D (64bit) well i tried x86 and 64bit both.
...
another point is sometime i successful to use live cd sometimes it hanged...
----
i will change my hdd to sata may be this will be a point.

Hi,
Also During install you might have already noticed, at which point it stalls, so you can go to another tty (alt+2 or alt+f2 don't remember) and check the dmesg to see what is making your install halt.

yes what bkstar said. That way it will verbose and you can see why its hanging.

despite the comp being new sounds like a hardware conflict to me have you tried instaling windows

Well i will try alt+2 and alt+f2, dmesg
...
i installed ubuntu 8.04 under windows..
now its ok..
ill try tht method also..
