Just curious what size portable computers people prefer.

15" M1530 here.

EDIT: If you have a 13.3", pick 13", if you have a 15.4", just pick 15", etc.

15"

It's a Dell Inspiron 1520 (no, it didn't come with Ubuntu).

13" For me :)

My desktop has (2x) 20" monitors, so flicking between the 2 is frustrating sometimes. I just prefer the 13" for carrying around

Should have gone with a multi-select poll, so I could say 15" for my laptop and 9" for my netbook (you should have also used 15.4" as 15" and 16" are very uncommon relative to 15.4")

12" Asus F9E bought when I got fed up waiting for a decent netbook to be released.
Glad I bought it, netbooks are excellent tools in their own niche, but are just not in the same league as a proper laptop.
For me the 12" chassis is the perfect blend of functionality and portability.

I don't know if I would classify a 12" as a netbook, a friend of mine has a 12" (a tablet, it runs Ubuntu that I set up for him :-) ) and it's pretty full-featured.

I definitely wouldn't.
The 12" F9E I have is very definitely a proper laptop.

I was intending to get a netbook, but bought the F9E (proper laptop) instead because the only netbooks readily available at the time in the UK were the Eee701 and 900 and I got fed up waiting for the AA1 to be released.

I have a Gateway ML3109 with a 14.1 inch screen and I have an Asus EEEPC 900 but I don't know how many inches it is.
My main computer has a 19" widescreen 1440x900 resolution.

Ha. Even I don't like flicking between 1680x1050 (laptop) and 1920x1080 (24" desktop).

I have the first generation Asus 4g. As a user, it is very nice for traveling. The Linux OS is transparent. Linux Techies hate it. It is not complicated enough.

I have a 7 incher, a 10" and a 15".

My favourite's the 10" but it's been in warranty for the past 2 weeks, unfortunately.

The 15" is actually the wife's, but she hardly ever turns it on because it's noisier than a vacuum cleaner. It has a beautiful 1400x1050 screen, though, what a waste...

Is that a fullscreen resolution?

I own 2 laptops/netbooks.

Dell Inspiron 1420n (14.1in)
Dell Inspiron Mini 910n (8.9in)

Going from either of these to my 22in LCD display is rather unnerving. =p

inconsistency between thread and poll topic.

My laptop is a 15" widescreen, it is however to heavy and bulky in my opinion, something in the area of 10" and < 1kg would be nicer for being portable.

My personal Linux laptop is 12.1" screen which is fine since part of the purpose of the laptop is to carry it to the Linux SIG meeting and running presentations.

When I can, I'm trying to plug it into my 20" widescreen monitor but I need to find a docking station and USB keyboard to get it going. Unfortunately Ubuntu doesn't "see" the screen so it only clones screens and everything is stretched horizontally.

My work laptop is a 15.?" widescreen but it's running Windows so I didn't count that.

What do I choose if I have both a laptop (15 inch) and a netbook (8.9 inch)?

(Well, I don't have the netbook yet - Dell is still busy producing it...).

My laptop has a 15.4" screen. If I had a desktop as well then I probably would have chosen a smaller screen size for my laptop for better portability. But since it's my only computer I had to settle for a compromise of decent screen size and larger laptop.
