Hi,
I usually have a drop-down user menu in the top-right corner for things like "Shutdown", "Lock screen", "Switch User" and so on.
After having sound card problems I somehow recently stuffed up my Gnome installation and could only get to a bash prompt at start-up. So I reinstalled gnome using "sudo apt-get remove --reinstall gnome" (or something like that, I can't find it in my history I'm afraid".
Anyway, since then I started getting the error "The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:_FastUserSwitchApplet" with the option to delete or not. Since hitting delete I no longer get the message, but still have no shutdown menu.
I've tried re-installing the fast-user-switch-applet as well, but this hasn't helped.
Any ideas where it could have gone and how I get it back?!
Thanks.
