Pure-ftpd user&pass problem

Hello!
Please give me an advice about a problem, I installed pure-ftpd un my machine(kubuntu 7.10), and everything went well until I reached the login, I can`t connect with user name and password that I set o. Below is an attempt to login:
Connected to "IP adress"
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 10:07. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Name ("IP adress":root): upload
331 User upload OK. Password required
Password:
421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection
Login failed

I hate that. I have the same problem. When I fix it I'll post back.
