Hi, I am new with Ubuntu 8,10, I have had many problems installing my ATI Radeon 9800 pro, first I installed the propietary drivers, but somehow did not work properly and twice it got wrong to the point that I could not even log in my computer. After this bad experience, I changed to the Open Source drivers, I used this guide:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver
But I think that something is missing because my card got bad although never to the point of not being able to login.

Later I found this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6623552#post6623552
In this thread things are much better for my card, now it works remarkably well in 3D and seems stable.

My only problem is that DVDs play a little bad, I have installed the mediabuntu, but the image has some points flashing here and there. The quality of the image is not good with DVDs but it is very good playing for instance youtube or any video online.

Finally my question, how can I update the open source driver? I have tried in this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=823266&highlight=install+xf86-video-ati but somehow does not recognize some of the commands and it is not updated.

Does anyone know how can I update the open source drivers?

Thanks!
