View Full Version : [ubuntu] installing creative webcam driver

I want to install a driver I downloaded for my webcam but I have no idea how to install it. Pls I'm a newb on linux. I'm running ubuntu 8.10
I downloaded the driver at http://opensource.creative.com/webcam.html.
when I tried lsusb it found
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 041e:4053 Creative Technology, Ltd Live! Cam Video IM

Is the driver a .exe? If not, what extension?

it is a tar.gz which i extracted ( ididnt know if i should have done).

ok open up a terminal and type in "cd (the driver folder)" with no parenthesis or quotes. Then type "ls" without quotes when you are inside the folder and copy and paste everything in this thread. I'll look it over and see how I can help.

the folder with the extracted tar.gz driver is on the desktop. thanx

I connected three brands of webcam to my machine without installing any drivers. All of them work without drivers. You just connect them to USB (most are connected this way), then check them out with Ekiga if they work. You must change the preferences in Ekiga though. 8)
