Hi!

I'm a green, green, green Ubuntu noob... I've been using Ubuntu for 2 days and althoguh I've been working with computers for like 18 years (always Micro$oft OS), I have my trouble finding my way around. For instance, it took me several hours to get VLC to play DVDs.

Anyway, my question would be... I've been installing and uninstalling programs by the ton for two days now, trying all kinds of tips and tricks to get the ones I wanted to run, toying around with tar.gz (i.e. trying to compile, always to no avail). Now I wonder, doesn't the system get cluttered by all this in and out? I mean, by now there's probably tons of residue left, right?

Thanks!
Matthias.

Surely it's a bit of a bind to keep doing this? Is it really that big of a problem?

I don't suppose it is, after all we're not using Windows here. I just had the feeling that with testing all these programs and installing and un-installing all the drivers, packages etc. it might be an issue.
