View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 8.10 Hangs after new install with auto login - Dual Boot with Vista

I am a newbie to Ubuntu so please excuse my ignorance.

I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a second partition with Vista on the first partition. Vista still works fine with the Ubuntu boot loader. When I select Ubuntu boot it seems like it is loading fine but then it hangs. All I have on the screen is the mouse cursor - background is a peach-ish color. I can't do anything from there. When the screen first comes up I can move the mouse around but then it stops moving - thus why I am calling it a "hang".

I installed Ubuntu with a Mount Point of / and I used the Ext3 Journaling file system. When I did the install I think I set it to do Auto Login.

The install is on a HP d4100e desktop with AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 (2.2 GHz) with 4 GB RAM.

When providing advise please be specific since I'm an ultra newbie to Ubuntu.

Please help. Thanks!
