Hi ,
When I download MPG files , then display them in a file browser , some are shown as thumbnail pictures of the movie , which play OK , but others are shown as movie player icons ( roll of cine film ) and wont play at all.
The properties of the files look the same
Any Ideas ?

Have you installed the required codecs?

If the movie is encoded in a format you do not have the plugin for, the thumbnailer will fail.

The movies are either encoded differently or are corrupt. Just because someone called a file .mpg, .avi is no real indication of it's stream content.

Thanks for the replies, I think I must have the right codecs for MPG installed because some of them do play OK , maybe the other files are corrupt, or not actually MPG , as Yashiro suggested .
