I fool around with my system occasionally (that's how I learn) and this time I used a startup manager. I disabled dbus and hal and now the machine won't boot because the keyboard won't work. How can I change this back? I assume I use the live cd to edit something but I don't know what or where. If I have to reinstall, so be it-I don't fool around like this with really critical stuff but it would be more convient to just edit and boot.

It took me a while but I figured it out and learned a lot about the initialization process. I solved it by installing a fresh copy of the operating system (same version of course) and copying all the init.d and all the rc*.d files from the fresh system to my broken system. It worked. That's why I fool around a bit with stuff-you learn how it works the hard way and you remember.
