View Full Version : [ubuntu] Dual display on 8.10 with ATI card. Where to start?

I have a single HD4670 ATI card with dual displays, one generic 18" and a samsung 2232bw.

Both displays show the same image, and I would like to spread the desktop across both, or maybe do something clever with compiz fusion to make best use.

I've read a lot of articles and tried a few things but I've had no luck. Seems that 8.10 introduces a new method?

I guess one day there will be a GUI method, but I'm quite happy messing with the config files.

Can anyone give me an up to date start point please?

Is this still valid?

Ah - found it. Adding the ATI drivers installs Catalyst Control Centre, which has a gui front end allowing dual displays. :)

hi, i am running 2 x 24 inch, fresh installation, and immediate install the ATi driver off Add/Remove Software, ATi Big Desktop works immediately. I am using a 780G mobo.

Couldn't get the dual monitors going when i was trying out LiveUSB, or just swapping in a HDD with ubuntu (install off another computer), but i had reinstall both the OS and the driver, with the HDD and monitors connected.

Friend also reported the same thing, he is using ATi 3650, with 2 x 22 inch
