how do you find&replace something with nothing, as in no space.

as in if given: "this is a test-test."

find "-" and replace"" so then -> "this is a testtest."

thanks in advance.

Just put nothing in the replace box. That should work.

Select find and replace from the edit menu.

In the find box type test-test

In the replace box type testtest

Press "replace all" button.

im tyring to edit imported text. often text would have a hyphen for the end of a page or something. when imported, it might looks like

im trying to take out some hy-
phens in some text. and it's been annoy-
ing.

when taking out the paragraphs/lines in find and replace, im left with

im trying to take out some hy- phyens in some text.

so i need to replace all "- " as in hyphen&space with nothing.

find and replace appears to not be picking up hyphens.

thanks for any suggestions.

It works as per previous posts.

Select find and replace from the edit menu.

In the find box type -

Do not put anything in the replace box.

Press "replace all" button.

(Should say I used open office 3, and tested before replying)

yes it does find a hyphen that's all by itself. but find does not appear to pick up hyphens attached to an end of a word.

do i need to check something in the more options? or match case, etc?

Hmm, not sure why it is giving you a problem, it is replacing the hyphen at the end of the word for me.

Are you sure you are using the hyphen key and not some other "dash" on the keyboard.

Make a fresh document and copy your previous post(s) in a few times, then try it out on your new document, does it work then ?

haha, dash/hyphen! didnt even think about that!

thank you, howefield.

im still not sure which key is what for either, but when i copied and pasted it into the find/replace, it worked.

problem solved, but which key is hyphen and which is key is dash?

thanks a lot.
