No idea why, but suddenly the title bar disappeared. I managed to get it back by reloading the window manager via the Compiz Fusion Icon but I can't save it that way after logging out or shutting down. Next time I log in, I need to reload again.
It makes no difference whether I use Compiz or Metacity as windows manager.
