The cd is not well recorded, try burning it with another application like nero or alcohol 120.
Also ensure if the iso is well downloaded

Also try burning at a slower speed, around 4x usually works pretty well.

Did you check the MD5SUM?

md5sum pathToIso/isoname.iso
More inso here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
MD5SUM can be found here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/
MD5SUMs for Ubuntu 8.10 here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/intrepid/MD5SUMS

If it matches then try burning at a lower speed, check the cd for scratches and then run the cd integrity check on the cd

From what I have read on their site, yes. I have never used infrarecorder personally, so I can't tell you exactly how. Maybe someone with more experience with that program will chime in.

Infrarecorder is the only program that I have been able to successfully create an installation CD with. I use the portable version, which can be found here (http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/infrarecorder_portable). I'm not sure if there are any differences between the portable version and the traditional version that would affect performance, but the worst that will happen is that you'll waste one CD-R.

If you have download limitations you can get the cd from ubuntu.
Ubuntu will send you a copy for free.
