[8.04] Black screen of death?

Oh boy... Another problem every day with Ubuntu! Yesterday, I installed 8.04 on my computer. YAY! Problem is: Now, after Grub and the Ubuntu loading screen, the screen turns into a highly-backlit black. I'm sure I've heard of this problem, but when I searched it nothing came up. Please refer me to a thread where I can find the solution to this, or suggest something!
