For some reason I can't change my Visual Effect Settings. They are shown in gray, indicating that nothing is possible.
I've installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my external harddrive (dual with Vista).
I used to be able to have Extra effects, before I booted on an other computer. After that, this problem occured.
Videocard: Nvidia 8400M GS

I installed the proprietary drivers (version 177) and reinstalled them a few times. I tried version 173 with no luck, and now I'm back to 177.
I don't know what to do, can anyone help me?

There's a program called compiz-check. I think you can get it from synaptic, but if not, you can get it here, http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Compiz-Check-37443.shtml, or search google for it. Run it and it may be able to tell you what's wrong.
