Arggggghhh!!!! I am now at the point where I am tearing my hair out!](*,)

I have been trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on my partners Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop which currently is running on Windows XP. I downloaded the install program from the Ubuntu website and burnt it on to a cd.

The problem I am having is that the system starts to install then gets to a point and stops. It wont proceeed any further.

I have checked the cd driver - its fine
I have checked the cd on my computer and it is fine
I have tried installing through Windows and the same thing happens
I have changed the BIOS to boot from the cd first
I have run a memory test - all fine

The laptop has an Intel chipset and is operating ok on windows but slow and puts up random error messages - (the reason for the Ubuntu install)

It doesn't matter if the Windows is wiped as I have backed up all docs etc.

Any ideas where I can go from here?
