Update for those with even more time than me on their hands. Accessing the shares on the laptop with XP on it (the problem) became possible after changing the laptop's name in windows. So now, there's no way for me tell what exactly went wrong without pouring over miles of documentation. Happy happy, joy joy. Whatever. As long as it works. \(^o^)/
