Dude, where's my desktop

I've recently updated my Ubuntu install and when I started up again after a brief Windows period I was greeted by a rather strange screen. I've taken a screenshot in the hope that someone can identify what's going on and how to get my desktop back. I'd really rather not do a reinstall as I had wireless issues (I'm on an Aspire One) but if it comes to that...

Any suggestions?

At what point did the desktop disapear, was it after the install was completed, after installing the netbook remix, after changing or installing anything else. I use an aspire one, but without the netbook remix, and it looks like the remix is over the normal ubuntu desktop, so I dont know if that is what you mean. Please also give details of what version you have installed etc.
