I'm not buying from newegg for a while, and I'm a little upset with Asus for the backstabbing, if they played a role in this.

This:
http://www.itsbetterwithwindows.com/
Linked from this:
http://promotions.newegg.com/ASUS/012009/index.html

It's an outright lie and attack directed at Linux (they must be getting worried). I own an Eee and run Ubuntu on it, and I love the thing. It does everything I need it to and more. To say that using a proprietary OS which would cost, slow down over time and be insecure is somehow superior to all alternatives is false advertising to anyone who knows better.

They are conning people who may have only noticed there's another OS option sold with Eee PCs by saying it's "familiar" and "more compatible". It's only like that because they've shoved it down throats for years. I will agree that the default xandros isn't great, but for them to act like it is the only alternative to their OS is unfair (I'd still use it over Windows). Microsoft has enough money, why do they have to try to get more by pushing their inferior software and subsequently having more people end up with inefficient operating systems (which slow productivity)? They're just going to blow it on another stupid Seinfeld ad anyways.

M$ is using the commoner's inability to distinguish "familiar" from "better" to further their operating system, and I for one oppose. I almost want to buy "itsbetterwithubuntu.com" or "itsbetterwithlinux.com" to make a counter-site to attempt to educate people, once I stop fuming.

Sorry if this seems like just another M$/Windows rant, but this advertising scheme hit too close to home for me to let go, so I needed to vent. Argh. I hate harmful misinformation.

You're getting upset because Microsoft is advertising? Lol :D

I see no "misinformation."

Microsoft does offer commercial support, that doesn't mean it's good, but it's there...
Windows is familiar to many computer users...
As of now Windows does offer more hardware support...

Overall, this is just a fair advertisement.

It said the big companies who payed for extended support will get it (this includes manufacturers who use XP on their netbooks).

On the other hand, saying Windows is better acknowledges that there's an option, which says to me they're scared.

Windows 7 works wonderfully on my Asus netbook.

I'm guessing that Microsoft will keep supporting XP on netbooks until Windows 7 is released. I expect a pretty huge advertising push from Microsoft to sell netbooks.

yes we are getting there very soon. I will think they'll stop supporting it 1 month after the release of win7. Man I hope win7 is going to be another flop just for the giggles.

As of now Windows does offer more hardware support...

More than Macs yes. But they are far behind Linux.
But you can get third party drivers for more hardware than for Linux.

That kind of advertising is to be expected unfortunately. Even more unfortunately is the inability of any marketing of that sort for Linux. Wouldn't you love to see banners on these sites explaining the benefits of switching to Linux?

Microsoft has a juggernaut of a marketing department, you can bet they'll use it!

Reading that did make me want to throw up a little bit though. Yes, let's all trust a giant borg of a corporation and continue to use what we're familiar with even if there could be much better solutions out there... It's a shame people are so resistant to change by nature.

It's interesting to see this kind of advertising though. It looks directed square at Linux, which I don't think I've seen before.

Tell me again, why is it NewEgg's resposibility for the content of others spam?

NewEgg is the only computer/tech mega-store left worth it's URL.

Windows may be better for those with desktop PCs that need certain apps, games, etc. But for a netbook I believe that Windows is a horrible choice.

Everyone that I know uses a netbook only as a travel computer that they can use for email/web browsing, and taking notes on occasion. This would be perfect on Ubuntu.

I don't know which is more pathetic:

The fact that Microsoft need to advertise like this.
Or the fact that Flash 10 hates me and refuses to work 99% of the time (including on that website).

What a pickle :/

Well they aren't going to create an advertisement:

"It's more of the same with Windows".

This is why Microsoft will stay on top. They have billions of dollars to spend on ads, and Ubuntu has to rely on word of mouth. People, amazingly enough get persuaded by these stupid commercials for some reason. I will never figure it out. They're like mindless zombies doing whatever the tv tells them to.

I think it's funny. Thousands of people probably purchased netbooks with Linux and thought: 'this new windows ubuntu version is really fast and easy to use!'
Then after 6 months and no viruses or crashes they would start recommending the netbook with 'Windows Ubuntu' to their friends.....

this year will a revitalized microsoft effort in netbooks. They really can't afford to let it get out that netbooks with Linux mean no viruses, no crashes and same speed eight months down the road....

Brace yourselves! LOL!

If they are Acer Aspire One users with Ubuntu they have networking and kernel panics to look forward to with updates.

Whoever created that monstrosity of a website should be fired.

For Microsoft to feel the need to advertise, it means alot of netbooks have been using linux. I can't blame them for advertising, and if I was named Asus, and got paid 10 million dollars to advertise eeepc with windows, I sure would take that money.

Windows is a good OS, the problem is Microsoft being a bad company.
Linux is better in my opinion, linux is what I use, but that doesn't mean everything else sucks.

The stupider a commercial is, the more people are likely to remember it.

That advertisement is a clear indication that Microsoft thinks Linux is a viable competitor. Five years ago you would have never seen ads like this from a computer manufacturer. Microsoft would have had to have paid Asus big bucks to run those ads as Asus would run the risk of alienating a potential customer base.

Windows has always been doing advertising and putting all there money towards the advertisements. Microsoft costs money and we all know the old saying by famous Linus Torvalds, "Software is like sex. It's better when it's free."

I love this commericial the most though:
