Hi There,

What do you mean by Sudo commands?.
You are best not to use sudo to switch to superuser when new unless necessary.

So your mouse and keyboard don't work at times?. Do you just get a command line or do you ever see graphics on your screen?, Alt+F2 drops you to a terminal. Have you had any error messages?.

And which Ubuntu have you installed?.
What is your graphics card? (if one is installed).

This kind of info will help forum users to diagnose what's going on.

I'm using ubuntu 8.10, and at the sign in screen i get the complete graphic screen, asking for username ect, but keyboard & mouse do not respond at all. but when i go in to the terminal screen (alt -f2) i can sign in as normal. but this them but me in to an area of computing i'm not comfortable with. also their are no error messages
