Hi,

I have a PC running Hardy 8.04. It was working fine, and in my session i installed VLC and gparted. I rebooted the computer and it worked with a max resolution of 800x600. After unplugging and replugging in the cable, and another reboot, the resolution fixed. I got to the login screen without any problems.

Upon logging in, half the screen is filled with magenta-white noise, and the other half is my session and white noise.

I have a suspicion that it's related to the memory not refreshing, as I get similar patches on my laptop at times (which disappear 5 secs after login) when using screenlets.

Any ideas?

Turned out it lost the proprietary graphics drivers and was trying to display an unsupported resolution on the monitor...
