Test the open source ati driver on hardy

Hi all, as you know, the fglrx driver doesn't work for jaunty. I heard that a solution is to use the ati open source driver, but some people has some visualization problems with this one too. So, before upgrading jaunty and switch to the open source driver, I'd like to test it on hardy. How could I do it?

If I disable the fglrx in the menu administration -> driver, does it switch automatically to the drivers with no 3d?
