I installed an 8.04 system a while back, and finally ran the updater... now when trying to start Ubuntu it hangs.

Watching the messages while loading, the last few lines are:

]driver 'sr' needs update - please use bus_type methods
]sr0: scsi3-mmc drive 1x/48x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
]uniform cd-rom driver revision 3.20
]sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 16x/40x cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray

After that it just sits there.

Since it seems relevant, I have two IDE DVD drives, (pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-105 and TSSTcorp CD/DVDw TS-H552U), an ADAPTEC AHA-2940 PCI SCSI controller, and an Iomega 100 SCSI Zip drive. The zip drive is the only drive connected the SCSI controller.

The kernel version I am trying to boot now is 2.6.24-23

Any ideas?
