Maximize limitation

probably been asked before but couldn't get the right search combination to find the answer. i'm sure you know what that feels like (*,)


i'm trying to figure out a way to define the precise maximize constraints of my windows when i click the maximize button.

i have a whole bunch of conky feeds on the right hand side of the desktop that i want to see permanently. as modern monitors these days are so wide, its unrealistic to have a window (such as a website or blog) expanding out to 1200.

i know rainmeter and emerge desktop allow this sort of behavior very easily in windows, there must be a way in gnome, metacity, compiz X, etc

I just saw this exact question come across the board last week, to no avail. I've tinkered like crazy with Compiz settings trying accomplish this, but if it's possible, then it'll take someone smarter than me to figure it out.

Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
