First-time poster with a nagging question. At work, I am building some rackmount systems that use a touch-panel display and boot from a CF card. I have some specialized hardware in the racks that needs some configuration, but the config software only runs in Windows.

I could remove the hardware and configure it on a Windows PC, but I am wondering about the possibility of installing a minimal installation of Ubuntu and running this software under Wine. Then I could do the configuration in-system.

The problem is I only have 512MB CF cards available to try this with, so I would only want the bare minimum packages. I figure I'll need wine, also xorg and a window manager (thinking openbox) but nothing else.

Any suggestions on how to do an install that has ONLY the absolutely essential packages? Thanks in advance.
