Hey everybody,
I'm building an Edubuntu LTSP server for my school. It would have to serve about 50 clients max., on average it will serve 25 clients.
Usual multimedia demands: A lot of web browsing, youtube videos, sound, richmedia education applications, etc. Just what you would expect from an average school.
I don't have a lot of experience with LTSP servers and this amount of clients but I do believe I'm in for a big server. The setup as I have currently thought it out:
Xeon E5430 Processor 2.66GHz x 2
Intel S5000VSASATAR
Kingston ValueRAM FB-DIMM 4 GB ECC DDR2-667 x 4
Hitachi HDT721075SLA380 750 GB x 3
Lian Li PC-A70B
be quiet! Dark Power PRO 850W
This gives me decently powered 8 cores and 16GB ram as well as RAID1 read performance and one spare disk. I don't need a lot of disk space so RAID1 will suffice and it's quite cheap.
The big question: Do any of you have experience with 25/50 parallel LTSP thin clients? Would my setup hold-up or do I need to go even bigger?
Input highly appreciated, thanks in advance.
