And here's mine for today

OroboROX theme: Kymatix2 with noir scheme
GTK theme: Nodoka Midnight
Wallpaper: Remnants from zixpk.com
Minor tweak: Swapped memo for simple clock. Put a symlink to memo in the autostart folder (hence the alarm clock in the systray)

And once again, the attachments aren't working properly

DIY Thumbnails

Run scrot with the following argument. -t or --thumb NUM (where NUM is a percentage of the original size). I think something like 20 would be a good place to start for most screens. You can also use a -d or --delay set to whatever value you like if you want to minimise the terminal (assuming you're using a terminal) before the shot is taken.

Upload both versions (full size and thumb) to your favourite image hosting site.

In the reply options select Insert link and paste the direct link to your full sized screenshot in the dialog box.

Then click on Insert Image and paste the direct link to your thumb in that dialog box (the Image link should be embedded inside the url link)

Voila! A thumbnail that opens up the full sized image

Two of my laptop desktops (a.k.a. workspaces) atm: Openbox, Exaile, Conky, a modified GTK theme, and — last but not least — Nautilus not behaving badly this time but browsing files on my remote desktop machine (on the left side screenshot).

Finally found instructions (http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic/84/using-nautilus-under-openbox/) on how to prevent Naughty Nautilus from taking over the desktop also when e.g. browsing files on a device through the Bluetooth Applet, etc. Brilliant!

Thanks. I tried to make it as official looking as possible, even down to the fonts.

I got the background from here (http://i34.tinypic.com/4illj7.jpg).
The "achievements" are custom launchers I made from the icons at the team fortress blog 1 (http://www.teamfortress.com/scoutupdate/energydrink.htm) 2 (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm) 3 (http://steamgames.com/tf2/pyro/)

Wait. I thought you were big on KDE. What gives? :p

I am. But it's not ready yet.

I can see it's geting better all the time, but it's still too flaky at the moment. When I actually need to get things done - when it comes to the crunch - GNOME is the only thing solid and fast enough for working. Plus it doesn't perform well with ATI.

Give it 6-8 months and it'll be KDE all the way.

Second and third shot is LXDE, where everything but the colours and metacity are the same.

a new version of xcfe4, apparently (they finally got "set as wallpaper" as an option in thunar, my main reason for not using xfce4. (yeah, i know that sounds unreasonable, but when you change your wallpaper every five minutes, that mess gets old)). simple icons, aurora simple gtk. the wallpaper is, at the same time, both the most hilarious and the most touching of all mma pics. "i'm sorry, honey, we can't go to disney world. daddy lost."

Yeah, I had to set some colors in .Xdefaults. They change the colors for the entire terminal though, not just ncmpcpp. I never could get ncmpcpp to look good without changing the .Xdefault colors.

If you'd like them, this is what I have for my colors:

Like Ubuntu it just works....with Openbox, which can be a bit tricky to setup for newbies. It appeals to users who have had problems installing/not been able to install Openbox....but who are using an old machine.
It's not just that. I've had Openbox in Ubuntu alongside Gnome for some time, and I don't think it is particularly hard to install (heh, just "sudo apt-get install openbox", I think!) and tweak even without all the smart additional stuff in #!.

Crunchbang is, as I see it, specially intended neither for old hardware nor for unexperienced users (I am that, too), even though it works well for both, I guess. I think (at least still recently) #! Crunchbang "advertised" itself as a distro that may break down occasionally or even frequently, and that may just make your computer say "Crunch! Bang!" Hardly very appealing for absolute beginners, if they are not especially adventurous!

Personally, I am very fond of #!, my favourite Ubuntu derivative, fast becoming my favourite distro. I find it very well designed in many respects and indeed "user friendly" in a distinctly different sense than standard Ubuntu (or Kubuntu or Xubuntu). I do have a semi-old desktop machine and I am a non-technical user with just some nine months' old relationship with Linux, for the most part with generic Ubuntu.

Nine months often means enough time to give birth to something new and unheard-of... So I actually installed #! already a second time, but not on the same machine (but instead of that, a tinyish spare external HDD to carry along — and I've plugged it onto my brand-newish laptop too, occasionally, because it's so fast and just works actually better than my standard Ubuntu install...).

P.S. Ha, I dug up the actual "advertisement" — actually a disclaimer (http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/about):

Disclaimer

CrunchBang Linux is not recommended for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. CrunchBang Linux could possibly make your computer go CRUNCH! BANG!

P.P.S. And what's more, in #! I have a light, Openbox-based distro, which I do not have to tweak at all if I don't want to or don't have the time and energy (I've put way too much time into it with other distros, but #! works so well and looks so good that I don't feel the need to tweak).

Oh what a fine fanatic I'm becoming! I've seen the light!

openbox, conky and roger.

http://f.imagehost.org/t/0965/rogerscr.jpg (http://f.imagehost.org/view/0965/rogerscr)

there's a long story about roger involving two falconers, a bell, a very unfortunate squirrel and a host of supposed wildlife agences who would be a lot better off with the proverbial 'hole in the ground'.

I've been toying with a completely greyscale GTK and Openbox theme where the colour would be entirely dictated by the icon set and the wallpaper. I've got it to a point where I'm pretty satisfied.

Details:
GTK: Custom, based on MurrineDust
Openbox: Royalty, modified slightly.
Icons: Gnome Colours

Open applications: Tint2, Conky, Thunar, Urxvt, and Sonata.

Yeah man, haven't you heard of it? It's great :)

Yeah, I had to set some colors in .Xdefaults. They change the colors for the entire terminal though, not just ncmpcpp. I never could get ncmpcpp to look good without changing the .Xdefault colors.

If you'd like them, this is what I have for my colors:

! tangoesque scheme
! Black
*color0: #000000
*color8: #555753
! Red
*color1: #ff6565
*color9: #ff8d8d
! Green
*color2: #93d44f
*color10: #c8e7a8
! Yellow
*color3: #eab93d
*color11: #ffc123
! Blue
*color4: #204a87
*color12: #3465a4
! Mangenta
*color5: #ce5c00
*color13: #f57900
! Cyan
*color6: #89b6e2
*color14: #46a4ff
! White
*color7: #cccccc
*color15: #ffffff

It's been on most of my previous screenshots where I show Google, spanning as far back as at least a few months ago. I haven't actually received an e-mail as of yet. Besides, that's my public e-mail address. It's even in my profile. I have many hidden ones.

It's really not that complicated. You find the command. Put it in the menu where you want it located. You're done.

It's definitely worth it once you realize how much faster it is.
