I am trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 with no dual boot. I boot up from the Ubuntu CD (sent from Ubuntu rather than burnt myself) and choose to install on my pc. I have a 120GB IDE drive and a 640GB SATA drive. The SATA drive is attached via a PCI card as the motherboard in my old pc predates SATA.

I choose to install to the 120GB drive and off it goes, doing its thing. Trouble is once I reboot without the CD in the drive I get a "Press a key to reboot" message - indicating to me that the operating system is not being found.

If anyone could help me to get this machine booted up I'd very very thankfull. (note I am a linux noob)

An update, if I unplug the sata drive and do a fresh install on the ide drive, i can boot up fine.

So it looks like it is something to do with the sata drive.
