OK, maybe unfair. But I recently installed the an 8400GS (for display) and 9600GT (for CUDA) Nvidia card and the 180.22 driver from NVIDIA required to run 2.1 CUDA apps on Ubuntu 8.04.2. Of course I turned on the visual effects. They sure looked cool.
Except:
1. Random ghost selections appeared when I moused over menus
2. Scroll bars in several applications caused horrible scragging
3. Java apps stopped resizing internal windows correctly
I probably could have found more bugs if I'd had the patience to spend 5 more minutes looking.
Is compiz the culprit, or the latest nvidia drivers? I like the fancy desktop effects, but with this many problems I've turned them all off.
