Hi!

I just got my iPhone yesterday and i used a Windows-machine to syncronise it just to get started. Now I want to be able to add songs* to it, but all I get when I plug it into my Ubuntu is a mount of the Photos. Ubuntu thinks it's a camera. How can I get it working with Rhythmbox or some other tool. I don't want to boot Windows just to add songs to it.

All in all it isn't easy to achieve, and you will need to jailbreak your phone, and do a lot of fiddling to get anywhere, but it is apparently doable:

Hope that helps

Welcome to Apple. From what I understand they update their firmware everytime the community figures it out.
