My problem:
As the title suggests, after a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.10, I wasn't able to install the proprietary drivers for my nVidia card. I would click Activate on the driver and it would say downloading driver and then the window would close and nothing would happen.
What I did to fix it:
I updated my system, and this seemed to fix the problem. After the update, the driver installed and after a reboot, all systems were go.
What I suggest:
I'm not sure if it's possible/practical, but if it is, I suggest maybe letting the user know that they can't install the hardware without updating their system. Maybe someone has a better idea, but that's just a thought.
