Ubuntu 8.04. When running the latest series of updates, there was one package which shows as "not authenticated", and which I decided not to install just yet. It's an update for linux ubuntu modules 2.6.24-23 generic. Tried to put a screenshot here, but I get error messages. What I wonder about is *why* an update of this nature would not be authenticated, and if there is any reason to worry about the source of the update.

I also don't get the advice under the description tab.
This package contains modules supplied by Ubuntu for Linux kernel 2.6.24 on x86/x86_64.
You likely do not want to install this package directly. Instead, install the linux-generic meta-package, which will ensure that upgrades work correctly, and that supporting packages are also installed. As far as I can tell by checking in Synaptic, I do have the meta package for this version installed already.

I don't think you have to worry, because that update comes from Ubuntu repos.
