Im trying to install Ubuntu on my desktop.
Ive tried both 8.04 32-bit and 8.10 64bit.
Both are the cd distributions, not dvd.

When I boot from the CD I choose install, but after loading it freezes while loading the first dialog box.

Im running an AMD Athlon64x2 3800+ (939 version)
Asus A8N SLI premium
1.5gb ram
EVGA Geforece 7800 GT
2 19 inch lcd monitors

The initial menu shows up fine on both monitors, but after choosing install the 2nd monitor glitches out and stops working. Should I try running the installer with only 1 monitor attached?

The fact that youre booting from a cd can cause some irregularities with dual monitors. If it bothers you, then yes disconnect your second monitor, but does the dialogue box freeze on both or only one monitor?

The 2nd monitor stops working before the dialog comes up. All I get of the dialog is the gray box. No text, no buttons.

Try running the install in "safe graphics mode." At the installation disc boot menu, hit "F4" and select "safe graphics mode" and then run the install.

I have had problems where the install menu couldnt detect my screen resolution or I have also had it where I would get alot of screen tearing. But when using the safe graphics install method always solves my problem.

try it, and let me know how it works out!
