people are sending me smileys on pidgin but i can not see them. how do i fix this problem?

Do you see the text only, ie. the colons and end parentheses? Or do you literally see nothing?

thank you for the reply. I think it was that my friend that uses yahoo messenger was sending me smileys that are not supported by pidgin. all the other smiley's i can see. It's just that the smileys my one friend sent were specialized. like something about electric. I dont know.
