I tried to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop but couldn't.
No matter what I did, the laptop would boot with a message saying "No bootable drive -- insert boot disk and press any key".

I guess what I need to know is this 1) a bad drive (someone has gotten this to work), 2) incompatible, or 3) how to do it.

Acer Aspire 5315-2077. It had an Hitachi 160GB 5400rpm, I replaced it with a Hitachi 320GB 7200rpm Sata 3.0gb. That may be one of the problems.

The laptop can read the new hard drive after it has booted from within, and it can boot off the drive while it is connected USB.

Acer's web site indicates the latest BIOS is 1.34 5/5/2008. Mine is 1.43 from 6/2008. Can't explain that one.

I'm thinking that it's an incompatibility due to the Sata 3.0gb interface, but I'm not sure. Anyone else have any experience on this?
