Intrepid won't install or run on Asus M50 (ATI Radio HD 3650 video)

I'm trying to help a friend out but I'm at my wits end, Google and search turned up nothing. He has an Asus M50 with ATI Radeon HD 3650 video card. Whenever he tries to run the live DVD or install Intrepid, it will hang and the screen will just flicker with noise. Any help?

Start the LiveCD in safe graphics mode. To do this press F4 at the menu and select safe graphics mode, you should then be able to get to the desktop, if not try some of the options available by pressing F6.
