(For the absolutely literal amongst you; the title of this thread is expected to be taken as somewhat metaphorical.)

Then I won't have to deal with societal/cultural changes, as I will then be able to hide from being able to find information on political & religious moves that may make me feel insecure.

Therefore internet & computer communication systems are a force for social upheaval & anti-religious discourse, & so should be banned.

Don't discuss.

Are you being serious?

If so, then why do you need to be banned? You won't be using a computer anyways.

And why say "Don't discuss" and post this on a forum with 776,827 members?

But then again, I can't tell if you are being serious or not.

Its a good idea. I'd like to do it for a week maybe. Just to get away from everything for a while.

Bah. It's not hard to live a spartan/bubble life even in a big city - just sell your TV and computer.

But I like to believe it's possible to use these things in moderation. Computers have the potential to be anything you want them to be: incredibly powerful tools or the ultimate timesucking pit. You choose.

We have never had TV here, in the 20 years that the house has existed. Our children were TV virgins until the world got at them! (shock horror)

Computer is another story... ;)

Too true.

I willfully chose "timesucking pit". Although I do consider searching for Porn to be a valid use of time.

It seems you have accepted your fate as inevitable. I'm still fighting (or deluding myself, some might say).

Wow! Now that is one slick post. You've found a way to start a thread about all of the things we're not supposed to talk about, but in such a way that it won't get closed unless someone else says something stupid.

Props to you, handy. It's reminiscent of the Backyard. :)

Why thank you forrestcupp, :-) though what you stated true or not, was not what motivated the thread.

Yeah the best way to state your dis-illusion with today's "cyber"-society and it's way on the internet is to post a "rant" on a internet :D
You can be Ludist if you want, just I feel it's quite ironic to "discuss" (or not as you wished) it on the internet and more so on a forum of an OS.

Am I only one who's surprised with the fact that you don't have TV?
OK I personally don't technically have (or own) a TV, but I do have IPTV and VLC (yeah life is good being a technology-freak :D)

Oh and if you wondering who am I; let me introduce my self:
Hi I'm Primož and I'm new on this forum, but not new to "Ubutu world".
I just prefered to stay on Kubuntu forums instead of Ubuntu forums.
But I recently decided to join this forum also.

I see no reason why we can't work something out here chucky... ;)

As long as we don't take more than 75% off of the natives wealth in the process, I think we would definitely be helping them, don't you?

Are there any islands where the news from our mass media is seen for the spin that it is, & therefore blocked?

There actually exist islands somewhere near the Maldives, where the natives knew that the 2004, Tsunami was coming, & headed for the hills to survive.

Apparently when the press arrived on boats to interview these amazing people, these incredibly precognitive people, shot at them with arrows & would not let them land on their island. ?

These people certainly do seem like a particularly well informed & tuned in tribe of people to me.

&, they don't have electricity. :p

i enjoy the idea of this civilization that recognizes the spin and ******** of todays media, but lets face it, technology is our friend

electricity and technology are not our enemies, we are our own enemies

its not the technology that causes problems, the technology solves problems

its how we use technology that creates problems

AHHHH Techno fear!

Not fear, rationality.

Technology requires various forms of energy, to create it, maintain it & to run it.

All of these forms of energy have huge environmental costs, some more than others.

It is not a personal fear of technology, I love technology, I'm a technician. :-)

I just see the cost of our technology on a broad scale, & it is a very scary thing to look at.

Continued from previous post:

When the consumer paradigm which is a linear model, is projected into the future; then logically when the increasing human population is factored in, the outcome for a human population that adheres to such a paradigm can be nothing else but a catastrophe for both the environment (biosphere) & of course humanity, which is naturally a part of the biosphere.

This of course begs the question, which needs to be asked by every thinking human; how much of their current lifestyle are they prepared to sacrifice for the future generations?

Are we prepared to use public transport, cycle, walk, live in smaller more energy efficient houses, do with out most of our electronic devices which use electricity & last for a short amount of time; basically they become redundant so quickly that they should be considered disposable.

Can you give up using your iPod, mobile phone, netbook, notebook, desktop, server, the internet?

We are in an incredibly difficult situation, due to the paradigms that we were born into. Most of us will never notice this reality, as we just keep on keeping on. Blaming our governments or somebody else's government (as we are told to do) for our woe's.

All the while, the chance to clean up our act keeps on slipping further out of our reach.

Unfortunately there is such a time as too late, & we are basically approaching that time with our eyes closed, which has no positive effect on how quickly it arrives.
