Why does gnome-system-manager use so much juice

Monitor* not manager. I have a 2.66 p4, I notice that when I use it, and switch to the performance tab, it uses 22% of my processor just sitting there. XP's monitor uses just 2% anyone know what the deal is with that?

or/ more seriously, i have no idea, but have often (well, not often...) wondered about this. perhaps the gui for it is inefficiently coded?
