I've been able to update from the web (e.g.just did gedit, gedit-common) but b43-fwcutter, libatm1, patch and pptp-linux all demand that I
"Please insert the disk labeled: Ububntu 8.10 _intrepied ibex_ - Release i386(20081029.5) in drive /cdrom/" (my quotess) wuwt? I have no such disk.

Check in Software Sources (System>Admin>Software Sources) that you have the cdrom box unticked on the first tab.

That was it! I didn't realize downloading 8.10 had that side effect.

Thanks

Now I wonder why I can't mark this as solved. My thread tool doesn't have the fifth option as per link from partiboi2

The option to mark threads solved is currently disabled due to database problems the forums were having a while ago. Hopefully it will return soon.
