I have always gotten lots of help here for Ubuntu. Maybe you can help me with something different.
My daughter is selling a self published book. She would like a web site and an email address for accepting orders. She will also put up a Paypal logo.
It would be nice to have a domain name with her publishing co. name.
The site will be very simple. Perhaps just one page with book and order info (Paypal and snail-mail). A second page would have some excerpts from the book.
I can design the pages. Can anyone anyone recommend a web host or give some advice on what to look for?

Ive never accually made a website, but I am planning too, and godaddy has by far the best prices.

Godaddy is domain names mostly I think. If you want a look into some of the best webhosts that would suit you go here. http://www.webhostingtalk.com - It's a very good, kind community like Ubuntu's.

I've used CIHost and Fatcow. I'd recommend the latter. You can purchase your domain with someone else and they'll host it or you can just purchase from them (I recommend the latter again).

If you just want a website, ubiquityhosting.com has served me well - the owner is actually a member here as well.
For publishing books, lulu.com is really much smarter - she should use that, they are also Linux friendly I think, the former RedHat CEO works there now at least.

lulu is , I believe, print on demand.
There "take" is higher than many plain old printers.
My daughter needs an inventory.

I run a small web design company in the UK, would be more than happy to provide hosting services and ecommerce services etc....:)
If your intrested I can setup a full online shop in a short time, even do the design unless your dead set on that.
You can PM me to discuss your requirements.
Btw this thread *may* get moved to market place since im sure I wont be the only one to offer their services and therfore my post may be seen as advertising. But least you know you would be dealing with an old' linux hand and a ubuntu convert ;)

I use www.easycgi.com - have been happy for a few years now.
I have a forum setup and the focus of my site is PHP and their customer service is very fast.

1and1.com (http://1and1.com) !
Linux hosting for $4/month. Unlimited domains, so you can share that $4/month hosting for multiple sites. Their control panel has many advanced tools and settings, and is quite nice. Only complaint is that they do not do spf in DNS, if that matters for you.
