I have a new build on ubuntu 8.10 32bit. I have a sound problem I cannot resolve. I want to try 8.04 32 bit. But when I restart computer with 8.04 CD, I get stuck at (initramfs). Tried 8.04 64 bit with the same result.

What is (initramfs)?
How can I proceed past it?

The full screen reads:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) Built-in shell (ash)
(initramfs)

Thanks.

Hi paker.

This explains it fairly well.

Are you able to get the alternate install cd?

Wow, that's quite a read. Thanks for the link. Fortunately, I solved the audio problem, and don't have to downgrade to 8.04. I am keeping 8.10. Thanks again.
