Can I install xubuntu on this machine?

If so, how?

It has just a slot loading cd-rom.

Thanks,

Terry

You'll be able to install Xubuntu no problem. I've run 7.04 on my 350mhz G3 with 192mb of ram.

Here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=728093) is the link to another person helped with the same issue.

I downloaded ubuntu gutsy for powerpc, burned it to a disk and try to boot the machine with it.

The CD prompted me to type in "live", and then after about 10 seconds the machine
sort of "turned off" (although the power button was lit).

Didn't seem to take it.

Suggestions?

Were you using a Live cd? I had to use the Alternative CD/text install. Also, Gutsy didn't work for me. I had to use 7.04 on my iMac G3 350mhz with 192mb ram.

To guarantee the cd booted properly I found rather than hold down "C" I should click it repeatedly until the cd boots via orange screen flash since I'm using a generic usb keyboard and this method has worked every time for me. After it boots up you can press "Tab" and type your installation command from the list that appears. I used powerpc-install
