Despite Ubuntu's live CD and "recovery" CDs/DVDs like Knoppix, sometimes nothing beats having your hard drive manufacture's diagnostics.

Yesterday, a power hit took out on of two SATA drives in a Fedora test system of mine. (Ubuntu server would have been installed, but I didn't know about Ubuntu then.)

The system would not reboot and was throwing a lot of SATA errors. Knoppix would not boot the system, and booting into runlevel 1 wound up generating the same load of SATA errors. I should have known right then and there a disk was dead.

Anyway Seagate's SeaTools for DOS showed one drive good, the other with tons of errors, and the rebuilding begins, but the separate home hard drive is the remaining good drive.
