Just wondering if anyone has come across any good music websites for downloading legal free music?

www.jamendo.com (http://www.jamendo.com)

It has a huge range of music, some of it REALLY good. Go in through Rhythmbox, (there is a link under "stores") and listen to random songs, or go to the website and try music and download whole albums. I've found a heap of stuff in my taste by searching for "fusion" or "progressive", but all genre are represented. It's awesome.

http://last.fm

It's not really downloading as in "keeping it on your disk", but it's definitely worth checking out.

I don't think that's legal though :D

edit: unless you live in countries like Denmark.

Is it legal to use TheLastRipper?
That really depends in which part of the world you are living in. As for us, in Denmark, the law is that it is legal to record radio and/or TV, depending on the interpretation of the law.

If it doesn't need to be music by professional artists, try www.newgrounds.com and have a look at their audio portal. Some songs there can be pretty good.

There is such thing as free legal music, its music provided by artists free of charge. Which apparently isn't too common these days :p

Spotify has been good to me.

It's a streaming service though so maybe not what you're after.

Client works well in Wine though.

I haven't checked any of these links, but they're supposed to be free and legal torrents:
