Help with Kernel Update Patching

I am currently running on 2.6.28.1 kernel and am compiling 2.6.28.6 I was wondering how do I apply the patches that are released. Like in 1 to 2 weeks patch 2.6.28.7 will be released and I was wondering how do I apply that patch to my 2.6.28.6 kernel? I use a patching code I found where I untar the file in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.28.6 folder and then use I get asked what file to patch. Thats where I get confused.

don't know the answer, but i'm about to try using DKMS to create a ppa package which will update three crappy lines of a retarded kernel module. this seems extremely complicated, and I was hoping that all the tools and ppa infrastructure would make it easy. any beter ideas?
